Finding the Right Work Fit - A Guide for autistic and AuDHD People (Part 1)

This guide is the first part of a five-part Yellow Ladybugs series created with our community to support autistic and AuDHD people to navigate work in a way that actually reflects our lived experience.

Part 1 focuses on understanding what 'fit' really means before you even think about job searching. It walks through how monotropism, sensory needs, energy levels, values and special interests all influence the type of work and the type of environment that will feel sustainable, rather than draining or overwhelming. It acknowledges why many autistic and AuDHD people end up burned out, under-employed, or feeling like they are the problem in workplaces that were never designed with them in mind, and reframes this as a system issue rather than a personal one.

Throughout the guide you are invited to reflect on past experiences in work, school or volunteering to notice what helped you feel safe and capable, and what left you exhausted. It explores different types of work arrangements and environments, not to tell you what you should do, but to help you recognise what might suit you based on how your brain and nervous system work.

At the end of the guide there is a simple worksheet that helps you turn these reflections into something practical you can use when you are ready to start thinking about work choices or job searching.

This is a digital PDF download and is Part 1 of the Yellow Ladybugs Work Resource Series.
