In Part One we will look specifically at ADHD. We will explore what ADHD might look like in girls and gender diverse young people, differentiate between the types of ADHD, and bust some myths. We will also look into the ADHD brain and the role that dopamine plays, while offering neuro-affirming support options and information.
In Part Two, we will do a deeper dive into autistic-ADHD (or AuDHD) minds.
Part Three introduces seven, often hidden, areas where AuDHD young people may struggle or need neuro-affirming supports:
1. Internalising 3. Motivation
5. Impulsivity
7. Perfectionism
2. Executive Functioning
4. Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria 6. Interoception
In Part Four we reflect on the power of embracing difference and celebrating neurodivergent minds. Throughout the resource we will offer neuro-affirming strategies to help support autistic and ADHD girls and gender diverse young people.
This comprehensive guide brings together lived experience, the latest research and the professional expertise of the Yellow Ladybugs community. It gives teachers, parents, allies and professionals a deeper understanding of the relationship between autism and ADHD, with an emphasis on the more internalised autistic/ADHD presentation often experienced by girls and gender diverse young people. It also provides practical advice and neuro-affirming strategies that can help us uncover the often-hidden needs of our ladybugs.
